Access to Technical Resources for Conference Attendees

Last modified 3/25/2024

Illinois State University often facilitates conferences for a variety of departments on campus, each with its own unique technology needs and requirements. The following article is a brief overview of how conference organizers can decide which services will best suit their needs. Follow the links to the companion articles to get step-by-step instructions for each option.

My Attendees Only Need Internet Access

Choose this option if your conference attendees only require internet access to our wireless network for accessing resources that do not require authentication with an ISU account.

There are 2 ways to request guest wireless access:

Guest Wireless Account

  • This option allows attendees with a US-based phone number to create their own account, prior to and during the conference.
  • Access is only good until 11:59PM on the day the account is created, therefore it is necessary to create a new access for each day of the conference.
  • For more information, see Self-Service Guest Wireless Access for Conference Attendees.

Conference Organizer

  • The conference organizer creates a guest wireless account on behalf of their attendees.
  • The conference organizer can set an expiration date up to 2 weeks from the activation of the account.
  • Activation can also be delayed until a later date in order to prevent access from expiring during the conference.
  • For International Attendees, see: Guest Wireless Access for International Conference Attendees.

My Attendees Need Access to ISU Systems

If your conference attendees require permissions needed to access ISU systems and web sites, you may request Sponsored Accounts for your attendees. For more information regarding Sponsored Accounts, please see:

Please note:

  • Sponsored accounts should be requested at least 5 business days in advance of the conference.
  • Sponsored accounts are similar to ULIDs that are provided to ISU faculty, staff and students, but with fewer permissions.
  • Sponsored accounts will provide access to attendees who need to log in to an ISU computer but will may not give them access to certain ISU web applications or other resources. Please be sure to note your requirements in the request.
