What If I Forget My ULID Password

Last modified 2/7/2022

If you forget your password or have problems logging in, you can have your password reset through account recovery or by visiting the Technology Support Center or TechZone.

Note:

If you attempt to log into your ULID account with an incorrect password, your account will be locked for 15 minutes after the 5th consecutive attempt.

Before You Begin

This article discusses how to reset your password if you have forgotten it. If you know your current password, and would simply like to change it, please refer to:

If you forget your password or are unable to login, you have two options to reset your password in order to regain access to your account.

  • Account Recovery: If you forget your password, you can attempt to reset your password through your Account Management Portal by first answering the security questions you have previously set up on your account. Provided you are able to answer the security questions correctly, you will be able to set a new password on the account.
  • Administrative Password Reset: You can have your password reset for you by bringing in a Government Issued ID (Driver's License, State ID, Passport, etc.) to Julian Hall, room 115, or to the TechZone Service Center located on the second floor of the Bone Student Center. You will be provided with a temporary password so you may immediately login and change the password on your account, as well as update your security questions. If you are unable to visit one of the two offices, please contact the Technology Support Center for further instructions on how to remotely submit your ID for an Administrative Password Reset.

Each of these options is discussed in more detail below.

Account Recovery

If you forget your password or have problems logging in to ULID Account Management to change your password, you can attempt to recover your account. This process requires you to provide information about yourself and to correctly answer your security questions.

To recover your ULID account, do the following:

  1. Navigate to the Account Management Portal at account.illinoisstate.edu.
  2. Click Forgot My Password.
  3. On the Forgot My Password page, enter your ULID and Date of Birth. Click Continue.
  4. On the Security Questions page, answer the three security questions that you have previously set. When you have answered them correctly, click Continue.

    Note

If you are unable to correctly answer your Security Questions, see the section below entitled, Administrative Password Reset.

  5. On the Set Password page, enter your new password twice for confirmation, and then click Continue.
  6. On the Complete page, you should see a message stating Account Recovery Complete. Your Account has been Recovered Successfully. Complete propagation of changes may take a few minutes. You may now close this window.
  • The password requirements are listed on the right side of the page.
  • You can click the eye icon next to each password field to see the characters you have entered.

Important!

If you are resetting your password AFTER it has already expired, it may take up to 2 hours before you will be able to access your ISU email account and other Microsoft (office) 365 applications with the new password. During this time, you will get a message that your Account is Locked and to contact your admin. This is a bit misleading as the Technology Support Center is unable to unlock the account. Your new password is syncing with Microsoft and you will need to wait at least 1 hour before access is restored.

Administrative Password Reset

You can have your password reset administratively by bringing in a Government issued ID (i.e., Driver's License, State ID, Passport, etc.) to the Technology Support Center in Julian Hall 115, or to the TechZone Service Center located on the second floor of the Bone Student Center.

Your password will be reset to a temporary password, which you must then immediately change to something personalized. The Technology Support Center, or the TechZone Service Center, can assist you in doing so before you leave that location. If you are unable to visit one of the two offices physically, you may contact the Technology Support Center for instructions on how to remotely submit your identification.

You will also need to manually update your new password for individual campus services following a password reset. For more information regarding this, please refer to:
