SharePoint is collaboration software which can be used to share information, build sites, and manage content.

SharePoint is a web-based collaboration system used at Illinois State University.

SharePoint offers a number of features. For example, departments on campus use SharePoint to do the following:

  • Documents - Share and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Images - Share pictures, logos, etc.
  • Wiki - Document departmental policies and procedures
  • Calendar - Create calendars for departmental events and schedules
  • Announcements - Post news and announcements for the department
  • Sites - Customize SharePoint into as many sites as your department needs
  • Forms - Build automated forms for requests and data input

This is not an exhaustive list of things you can do with SharePoint. SharePoint is a powerful tool and can be customized to meet a department’s needs.

Access SharePoint

You must be granted access to SharePoint before you can log in. Contact your department’s technical support staff to find out if your department uses SharePoint.

Your department may have made SharePoint available to you through To attempt to access SharePoint through, do the following:

  1. Go to and log in.
  2. Click the Office 365 and Email button.
  3. Locate the Menu icon in the upper left-hand corner of your inbox.When you click this icon, the Apps menu will appear.
  4. Look for a link to SharePoint in this menu. Clicking the SharePoint icon will open a list of available SharePoint sites in a new tab.
  5. When you click the link to your SharePoint site, you may be prompted to log in again.

SharePoint Web Address

To access SharePoint directly, you should use the web address for your department’s SharePoint site. Contact your department’s technical support staff to find out the web address you should use when logging in.

It is typically insufficient to go to the ‘main’ SharePoint web address because there may not be a link to your department’s SharePoint site on the SharePoint home page.
