PDF Remediation Quick Guide

Last modified 8/14/2026

PDF Remediation is the process of identifying and correcting accessibility issues in an existing PDF. Remediation helps ensure that PDF documents can be navigated and understood by those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Whenever possible, accessibility issues should be corrected in the original source document before creating the PDF. If the source document is unavailable or additional corrections are needed, Foxit PDF Editor can be used to remediate the PDF.

Best Practices

When remediating PDFs:

  • Start with an accessible source document whenever possible.
  • Remediate the PDF when the original source document is unavailable or additional corrections are needed.
  • Run an accessibility check after making corrections.
  • Perform a manual review before distributing the document.
  • Test important documents with assistive technologies when appropriate.

Note: Do not rely solely on the accessibility checker. Some accessibility issues require manual review.
