Open PDF Files in Foxit PDF Editor+ from SharePoint
Last modified 8/16/2026
Foxit PDF Editor + can be used to open and edit PDF files stored in a SharePoint repository. Connecting Foxit PDF Editor to SharePoint allows you to open PDFs directly from SharePoint, edit the document, and check the document back in when you are finished.
This article explains how to connect Foxit PDF Editor + to SharePoint, open a PDF, edit the document, and save your changes back to SharePoint.
- Open a PDF from SharePoint
To open a PDF stored in Sharepoint:
- Open Foxit PDF Editor.
- Select File > Open > Add a place > SharePoint.
- In the Add dialog box, enter the SharePoint URL.
- You will find this URL by first opening the SharePoint site in the Copilot 365 portal and copying from the URL field of your browser.
- Enter a name for the SharePoint location. This name is used to identify the SharePoint server in Foxit PDF Editor.
- Select Next.
- When prompted, enter your SharePoint account credentials and sign in.
- Locate and select the PDF file you want to open.
- Select Open.
- View and Edit SharePoint Document Properties
Foxit PDF Editor Pro allows you to view and edit certain document properties associated with a PDF stored in SharePoint.
To view the document properties:
- Open the PDF from SharePoint.
- Select Share > SharePoint > Document Properties.
- Review the document properties displayed in the dialog box.
The document properties dialog box also displays the file path. You can select the file path to copy it when needed.
- Edit a Document Property
To edit a document property:
- Open Document Properties.
- Double-click the property you want to change.
- Enter the new value in the Edit text box.
- Select OK.
- Check In a PDF
After making changes to a PDF, check the document back into SharePoint so that your changes are saved to the SharePoint repository.
To check in a PDF:
- Select Share > SharePoint > Check In.
- Select the appropriate version number for the modified document.
- Enter version comments describing the changes, if appropriate.
- If you want to continue preventing other users from modifying the document, select Keep the document checked out after checking in this version.
- Select OK.
- Cancel a Check Out
If you checked out a document and decide not to keep the changes or no longer need exclusive editing access, you can discard the check-out status.
To cancel a check out:
- Open the PDF from SharePoint.
- Select Share > SharePoint > Discard Check Out.
- Confirm the action if prompted.
Discarding a check out may remove or discard changes that have not been checked in. Review the document carefully before using this option.
Preview Other File Types
Foxit PDF Editor+ can also temporarily convert certain non-PDF files stored in SharePoint to PDF for previewing.
The original file remains stored in SharePoint in its original format. The conversion is used to display the file in Foxit PDF Editor.
If you need to edit the original non-PDF file, use the application associated with that file type rather than editing the temporary PDF preview.
