The State Officials and Employees Ethics Act (5 ILCS 430/5-10) requires state employees to complete, at least annually, an ethics training course conducted by their state agency. It also requires that a new employee complete ethics training within 30 days of the start of the employment. The University’s Ethics Training program allows you to meet this obligation to comply with those requirements. 

How Do I Access Ethics and Mandatory Reporting Training? 

The University Ethics Office will notify employees via their University email and provide instructions on how to meet the Ethics Training course requirement. 

When you receive this email notification from Training@ilstu.edu,  click the Click to access the training button, as shown in the screenshot below (Figure 1). It will navigate you to the Ethics Training login page where you will log in with your ULID and Password.

Who can access the trainings? 

The training will only be available to those who have received the email directly from Training@ilstu.edu.  If you cannot find the email, double check your inbox and junk folder. If you did not receive the email, please notify your supervisor. They will need to contact the Technology Support Center at (309) 438-4357 or submit a service request at help.illinoisstate.edu/get-it-help to ensure that you receive the email. If a work colleague forwards their email invite to you to access the training, this will not grant you access to the training. 

Training will be conducted in the following two methods: 

1. New Employee, Rehire, and Return to Work Ethics Training 
2. Annual Ethics Training - OCTOBER 

Failure to complete the training within 30 days of notification to train will result in the employee’s name and position title being provided to the Office of the Executive Inspector General and the possibility of disciplinary action. 

Mandatory Reporting Training is administered by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access. 

What Does Ethics Training Focus on? 

The Ethics Training module consists of a narrated slideshow that focuses on Ethical work practices within the work force. It covers such topics as ISU’s code of ethics, conflicts of interests in the workplace, proper time reporting, secondary/outside employment policies, and other ethical compliance policies. 

What Does Mandatory Reporting Training Focus on? 

The Mandatory Reporting Training focuses on establishing an understanding the University's focus on maintaining a safe and secure campus. Participants in the training will learn how to properly report suspected child abuse, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment so the University can respond and investigate.

Non-Technical Issues

If you have not received notice to take your required training, and believe that you should have; or you have completed training and are still receiving emails asking you to complete them, please contact your immediate supervisor. Your supervisor will need to work with the Ethics Office to resolve the situation.
