Factory Reset Cisco IP Phone

Last modified 2/15/2022

Use the instructions below if you are needing to perform a Factory Reset on your Cisco VoIP phone.

Note

Be aware that the steps below are time dependent. You may want to read through the steps prior to beginning the process. If any step or number is pressed out of sequence, the Factory Reset will not go through and you will need to start the process over again. The reset process can take 10-15 minutes.

  1. On the back of the phone, there are three plug-in jacks: AUX, 10/100 SW, and 10/100 PC. To restart the phone, unplug the Ethernet cable from the middle jack (10/100 SW).  This is the only plug you will need to disconnect from the phone. When you do this, the phone will lose power and you will lose your internet connection too. Verify that the phone is off by making sure that there no lights anywhere on the front of the phone. If you have lights on, you unplugged the wrong cable and just need to start over making sure to unplug the right one.

  2. After 0-15 seconds, plug the Ethernet cable back into the middle jack/port on the phone and immediately press and hold the Pound Key (#) down. If successful, all of the phone's Line buttons will begin flashing in sequence. If they do not flash in sequence, you will need to start the process over once again

  3. If the line buttons are flashing, release the number key (#), and within 60 seconds, fully press and release each number pad button on the phone in this specific sequence:  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  *  0  #.  This will start the factory reset back to the phone’s default settings.

  4. Before starting the reset, be aware that you will not have access to your phone, so you may wish to plan ahead for the outage.

Reset Notes

  • Before starting the reset, be aware that you will not have access to your phone, so please plan ahead for the outage.
  • Once the phone starts the reset process do not interrupt it or attempt to pick up the receiver.  You will know that the process is complete because the default, blue main screen display will return and any pre-programmed line buttons will return.  Please remember that this can take up to 10 minutes.
  • Once the Ethernet cable is plugged back into the phone, during the reset process, access to the Internet will be restored on your computer.
  • When the phone is reset, you will need to re-set any personal preferences for your display background and preferred ring tones that you had set previously.
  • If for any reason you encounter any issues with the phone reset process, you will need to get help.  Please call the Technology Support Center at 438-HELP (4357) or by email at ITHelp@ilstu.edu and they will work with our communications team to troubleshoot further.
