Setting a Default Contacts List on an iOS Device

Last modified 10/4/2024

For best results, please update your iOS device to the latest version. For more information, refer to Apple's support article on updating your iOS device.

If you have more than one email account on your iOS device, you can specify one of your email contact lists as the default. When you create a new contact on your device, it will be placed on the default contacts list.

Set a Default Contacts List on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad

To set a default contacts list on your iOS device do the following:

  1. Press Settings > Apps > Contacts.
  2. Press Default Account.
  3. Select the account you want to set as the default contacts list for your device.
  4. Press < Back at the top of the screen to return to the previous page.

Your iOS device is now configured with the default contacts list you specified. When you create a new contact, it will automatically be added to the default contact list.

Note:

If you have chosen your Exchange account as your default contact list, then when you create a new contact on your device, it will also be added to Exchange.
