Grammarly

Last modified 3/15/2024

Grammarly is a cloud-based proofreading assistant that reviews documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, engagement, and delivery. It uses machine learning to identify possible errors and make suggestions to improve documents. Grammarly has both a stand-alone text editor and an overlay that can be used with any other desktop or mobile application with text editing functionality.

Grammarly is available for licensure and download for Illinois State University (ISU) faculty, staff, and graduate assistants (GAs). While Grammarly does have a generative AI integration, this feature is not currently enabled for accounts licensed through ISU.

Students wishing to use Grammarly may create an account, for which there are free and paid options. If the generative AI functionality is enabled, please be mindful that AI use must be compliant with the student code of conduct and the expectations of individual instructors. Questions about the use of AI should be directed to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Responsibilities or to individual instructors.
