Canvas Elevate

Canvas Badges/Credentials integrates credentials from other platforms and learning management systems so organizations can build meaningful and scalable credentialing programs that improve education and workforce outcomes, and learners can see and have agency over their path from achievement to opportunity.

  • Where to view my badges?

Your badges will be viewable at Illinoisstate.Badgr.com after you have earned them in your backpack. 


  • What is a badge?

A Badge is a shorter way to say "digital badge," "micro-credential," or "digital certification/credential." This is a digital award that can represent competencies and involvements recognized in online or offline life. Earners can display their badges online and can share badge information through social networks. Issues define badges and award them to earners. 

  • What is my backpack?

Your Backpack stores badge award data on behalf of recipients, making it possible for those recipients to organize and manage the badges they have earned. Backpacks are a place where you can share your badges to social media sites as a means of transmitting information about the achievements that a learner has gained. 

  • What is a collection?

In your Canvas Badges Backpack, you can group your badges into collections and then decide whether each collection is publicly sharable. 

  • What is a pathway?

Pathways provide the ability for badge program administrators to map out badged curriculum in a format that is easy to follow for learners. Learners can track their own progress and look ahead to plan the next steps of their learning journey. 

  • Why Share a badge?

Sharing your badges allows you to showcase your skills and achievements. Learners can demonstrate their expertise and skills to potential employers and demonstrate their qualifications for different roles.

  • How to earn a badge?

To earn a badge you would first need to enroll in a course. There are a couple of ways to enroll in a course:

  1. View the catalog at: Elevate.IllinoisState.edu
  2. Receive a link directly to a course from a badge issuer. 

After enrolling in the course, complete the course content and your badge will appear in your backpack. 


  • What about my personal badges?

Your personal badges from Canvas will be stored in your backpack.
