Artificial Intelligence (AI) at ISU

Illinois State University is working to develop a vision for the future of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University. Currently, the University has decided to make available several AI services on campus. More info on each of these AI services can be found below.

Safety Guidelines and Best Practices

Before using AI tools available at ISU, it is strongly recommended you familiarize yourself with the vision, guidance, and policies regarding AI technology at ISU, which may be found at the resources linked below:

  • Committee for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

The University is continuing to develop standards and practices around the use of AI at ISU. This is overseen and supported by the Committee for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence. Guiding principles for this committee can be found here: The Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence.

  • Data Classification

When working with generative AI software, it is important to understand what can and cannot be entered based on data classification. Do not enter or upload any restricted or highly restricted university data into Copilot. This includes things like student records information (FERPA) and personally identifiable information. See Data Classification Procedure if you have questions.
