Canvas Studio is a video recording, management, and sharing tool that resides inside of Canvas. It also provides cloud-based hosting of video files. Starting for Fall 2023, Canvas Studio will replace Microsoft Stream as the officially supported video platform for teaching at Illinois State University.
Canvas Studio Overview
Canvas Studio allows Illinois State faculty and students to record their webcams and screens. Students can record and submit videos for their assignments and participate in video discussions. Instructors can create video-based announcements, lesson materials, discussion forums, assignments and provide audio and video feedback for student assignments. Instructors can also embed quiz questions within videos and view how long students watch videos. Canvas Studio also provides closed captioning for videos and simple editing tools.
Replacing Microsoft Stream
With the adoption of Canvas and changes being made by Microsoft, instructors should use Canvas Studio, instead of Microsoft Stream or other options.
Videos stored in the Microsoft Stream Classic service were migrated to OneDrive in late April, 2024. Instructors will be able to find their videos in a new subfolder in their OneDrive portal labeled “Stream Migrated Videos”. This subfolder will contain the videos you previously stored in the Microsoft Stream Classic Service. See this guide for step-by-step help locating your videos.
