Training modules produced and curated for University members on governance, risk, and compliance requirements for use of institutional data and technology resources.

Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Under the 1.10 Security and Confidentiality of Data and Information, any employee who has access to any data or information must complete relevant information security training annually. This is an introductory training that provides a foundation for other trainings.

Remote Work Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Under the 3.1.31 Remote Work Guidelines policy, all employees entering into remote work agreements must complete specific cybersecurity awareness training.

SSN Data Protection Training

Under the Illinois Identity Protection Act, all employees who have access to Social Security numbers in the course of performing their duties must be trained to protect the confidentiality of those numbers.

FERPA 101: For Colleges & Universities | U.S. Department of Education

This online training course was developed by the Student Privacy Policy Office's Privacy Technical Assistance Center as an introduction to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and its requirements relating to the privacy and security of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in student records. This course addresses FERPA basics, explores requirements for the protection of student records for colleges, universities, and other postsecondary institutions, addresses who may and may not access student records, when those records may be shared, and discusses several of the applicable exceptions to the FERPA requirement for consent.

FERPA 201: Data Sharing under FERPA | U.S. Department of Education

This online training course was developed by the Student Privacy Policy Office's Privacy Technical Assistance Center to cover the basics of data sharing under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), with a focus on the FERPA exceptions under which data may be shared and covering expectations regarding security & privacy of education data.

Research Security Training | National Science Foundation

The U.S. National Science Foundation, in partnership with the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense, is sharing online research security training for the research community. This training provides recipients of federal research funding with information on risks and threats to the global research ecosystem — and the knowledge and tools necessary to protect against these risks.
