Last modified 5/13/2025

Beware of Fake Job Offers via Text or Email

🚨 Scam Alert: "Remote Job at SSENSE" Text Messages

We’ve received reports of fraudulent job offers being sent to members of the Illinois State University community via text and email. These messages claim to offer high-paying remote jobs with SSENSE or other companies and often come from suspicious email addresses (e.g., alyssarhodes.3326@bartender.net) or ask you to text a personal number for more information.

🛑 Red Flags to Watch Out For:

  • Promises of $250–$500/day for only 60–90 minutes of work

  • Claims your resume was “recommended by multiple recruitment agencies”

  • Generic language with no job-specific details

  • Requests to text or message an unknown number

  • Sent from unofficial email addresses not tied to real companies

  • Age restrictions that don’t make sense (e.g., “must be 28 or older”)

🎯 What These Scams Do:

Scammers often try to:

  • Steal your personal or banking information

  • Trick you into cashing fraudulent checks

  • Install malware on your device

  • Lure you into sending money or gift cards

âś… What You Should Do:

  • Do not respond or click on any links

  • Do not share personal or financial information

  • Report the message as junk or spam
