Eligibility

This service is available to departments within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

Purpose & History

The departments of English, Politics and Government and the School of Communication commissioned a system to post available internships both internally and externally. CAS-IT collaborated with Tom Lamonica, Jim Kalmbach, and Sherri Replogle to determine functionality of the system which was launched on 8/3/17.

Service Description

This custom developed web-based application allows CAS departments to post available internships intended for CAS students. The system is available at http://casit.illinoisstate.edu/internship.

Posted internships are intended to automatically show, hide, and delete based on key dates. The start date determines when the internship will appear publicly on the internship listings, and the end date determines when the internship is no longer visible publicly. However, even if the internship has passed its end date, it is not yet removed. It can still be edited and extended under the Edit Internship tab. The Expiration Date of an internship is the date it will automatically be removed from the system. This is set as one year past the End Date and may also be extended if desired.

Access to post internships is granted as requested and approved by the appropriate department chair. This system is intentionally not designed to collect applications for these internships.

Requirements & Availability

  • CAS-IT TAP supports most popular modern browsers on Windows and Mac OS like IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
  • Other platforms like iOS or Android are not expected to be able to post internships though the public listings are expected to be viewed from mobile.
  • A VPN connection is not required for off-campus access.
  • An internet connection is required to connect.
  • Internship posters can submit internships to any department they are affiliated as their chair would approve.

This service is available 24/7/365 except during CAS-IT systems maintenance windows. Details and a schedule about CAS-IT maintenance window is available on the CAS-IT website at http://cas.illinoisstate.edu/about/casit/services/. It is highly recommended that all invested parties subscribe to emergency alerts. The CAS Internship Posting system has an additional daily maintenance window of 4 am to 5 am where it may receive bug fixes and updates.

Service Continuity

This service relies on CAS-IT server infrastructure. CAS-IT has implemented reasonable data redundancy and backup standards to best ensure that a system failure resulting in data loss is not likely to occur. We cannot guarantee a “zero downtime” environment though.

Decommission of Service

Changes/degradation in technology availability or security may cause a need to decommission or transition the service. Impacted departments would be notified if necessary.

CAS-IT support for this service is available during normal business hours; generally M-F 8am to 4:30 pm except for University holidays and other closures. This service does not qualify for emergency outage support outside of normal business hours.
