Meeting Time Out Policy

Last modified 12/16/2022

Your meeting may time out based on the type of account, how many participants join, and if only one participant remains in the meeting. The following list shows what types of Zoom accounts have their respective time out policies:

Free License (Basic) Timeout Policy

Meeting Will Timeout at 24 Hours If There Is:

  • 1 host with no participant
  • 1 host with 1 participant only
  • No host with 2 participants (If the participants join before the host does)

Meeting Will Timeout at 40 Minutes If There Is:

  • 1 host with 2 participants or more at the same time
  • No host with 3 participants or more at the same time (If the participants join before the host does)

Note

If a participant leaves the meeting and joins again before their first connection is fully terminated, it may count them as two different participants and trigger the 40-minute time limit.

Paid Licenses (Pro, Business, Education) Timeout Policy

Meeting Will timeout at 24 hours If There Is:

  • 1 host with no participant
  • 1 host with any number participants
  • No host with any number of participants (If the participants join before the host does)

Meeting timeout at 40 minutes:

  • 1 host and 1 or more participants joined. Only one person remains in the meeting. The meeting will end 40 minutes later if no one else joins.

Note

The meeting durations for paid users only applies to users assigned Pro licenses. Users with basic (free) licenses on Pro, Business, or Education accounts are limited to the free license meeting durations. However, if a Basic user schedules a meeting and joins from a paid Zoom Room on the same account, the meeting will not time out after 40 minutes, despite the number of participants. If the Zoom Room is a free trial, the meeting will still time out.
